Well, I’m back from a slightly bonkers few weeks of travel with work (UK - New Zealand twice in four weeks), and need to give WGS a bit of love! Apologies for the downtime….
The CTP appears to be a lot more stable than Beta 2 - a few lock ups to be ironed out, but that’s what Betas are for. Hope you’re all having a good time with it too - feel free to share your experiences on the blog. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
The exciting news is that I’m moving house next week, and, as we’ve got quite a lot of work to do on the house (it’s a 1980’s timewarp), I’m going to install a fully wired home network and WHS will sit at the heart of it! I’ve already started on planning the network, so I’ll be posting regular updates and “how to” guides on the network installation and cabling.
At the same time, I’ll be switching ISPs (will be going on to a BT Business Broadband funded partially through work), which is apparently less contended, but requires a different (hopefully not proprietary) router, so it’s basically blank canvas time! Have already started the purchasing with three Netgear gigabit switches. I’m hoping the new router will sort out my VPN problems with work as the Belkin Pre-N router I’m using at the moment is a bit of a nightmare.
The Xbox 360 and PS3 will be going upstairs in a new den I’ll be creating, so need to decide how I’m going to serve media to the TV in the lounge. As a long time Media Center beta tester, my heart says install a mini PC in the lounge and use Media Center. My head, however, is telling me to go for the Netgear Entertainer HD. By the looks of it, it’ll fit the bill nicely - however, it’s not currently released here in the UK, so I may have to sit on my hands for a bit.
Anyway, stay tuned for updates as we move into the house and get to work - if you have any hints, tips or advice then feel free to post them below!
Great to be back!
