Charlie Kindel reports a first peek of the new MiniDTX small form factor motherboard at WinHEC this week.
This is the motherboard that many self-builders out there could select for their new Windows Home Server based machine, later in the year. As yet, there doesn’t appear to be any kind of hardware logo programme for Windows Home Server (i.e. there’s a hardware requirements list, but no “Works with Windows Home Server” logo, like there is for Windows Vista), but I’m sure that won’t be the case for long.
Gigabyte’s motherboard (codenamed “Churchill”) is an AMD-based board, supporting Socket AM2 Athlon 64 and Sempron single and dual-core processors. More details are available at Daily Tech. The specs appear ideal for a Home Server product, with low graphics capabilities (Only DirectX7 on the integrated hardware), but 6 SATA ports and 8 USB ports, so you can plug in plenty of storage!
The motherboard should be released in July, which gives you plenty of time to build your WHS machine before RTM. (Release to Manufacturing)
