Building the World’s Smallest Windows Home Server?

Mon, Jun 4, 2007 | Terry Walsh

cek highlights an Engadget article on a new Pico-ITX Motherboard from Via.

Engadget immediately dismiss the board as a failure dut to its lack of processing grunt, low resolution video and lack of casings. They’re thinking this is a missed opportunity in the Media Center category.

But wait! Is that a VGA and an Ethernet port I see? 1Ghz processing, and on board video? No Linux support? Hmmm…. if only there was some kind of new platform coming out, which needed a small footprint, but not a lot of power? Maybe for some kind of headless unit? Any thoughts?

1x Sata, 1x IDE and 4x USB? Sounds like a perfect WHS mobo! Okay, maybe Gbit networking would be a plus but a great idea.

I’m trying to see if I can find the right case or powersupply to actually hold this thing, no luck yet.

Put it into a ‘Western Digital World Edition II’, will fit nicely and this comes with two Sata Drives (1TB in total)!!
