Josh now has the scoop on the Tech-Ed Windows Home Server talk. Yep, it actually happened this time. It’s looking like it could be out next week (my guess is, the team absolutely wouldn’t commit to a timeframe just in case a showstopping bug crept in), so my take: expect it when you see it!
One thing that does need to be clarified from Josh’s post is the ability to purchase the Windows Home Server software for your own machine. The WHS team confirmed at WinHEC that the software will not be available as a boxed retail product at your local Best Buy (or PC World, here in the UK), but *will* be available to buy as a “System Builder” SKU via online retailers such as newegg.com and ebuyer.com. This is consistent with the way that Windows XP Media Center 2005 was released, and to my knowledge is the plan for WHS.
