I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the biggest fan of the Code2Fame competition - however, if you’re a US developer who’s been working on a killer add-in for Windows Home Server, then you can now enter the competition.

Here’s a quick refresher of the prizes and entry requirements:

Prizes for finalists:

  • Over $50,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs
  • Six finalists (three in each contest category) will receive an invitation to travel to Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington to “wow” the judging committee with a demo of their add-in during the finals round of the contest

Finalist Prizes (one for each add-in category):

  • Two (2) First Place Prizes. US$10,000 cash, mentioned on Microsoft web site, and mentioned in Windows Home Server developers blog.
  • Two (2) Second Place Prizes. US$5,000 cash, mentioned on Microsoft web site, and mentioned in Windows Home Server developers blog.
  • Two (2) Third Place Prizes. US$1,000 cash, mentioned on Microsoft web site, and mentioned in Windows Home Server developers blog.

  • How entries will be judged

This Contest consists of two (2) rounds: the Preliminary Round and the Finals Round.

    Preliminary Round
Beginning on or around August 31, 2007, a panel of qualified judges will review all eligible entries received and select up to three (3) finalists in each contest category (Software and Hardware) based upon the following criteria:

20% Creativity (Is it creative? Is it innovative?)
20% Practical Use/Time Saver (Does it solve a practical problem? Does it make something easier? Does it save peoples time?)
20% Performance (Does it run smoothly?)
20% Ease of Use (Is it easy to install and use? Does it require the user to reference a read me file or instructions to use?)
20% Cool factor (Would people want to use it? Is it something people think they must have?)

All Finalists will be notified on or around September 17, 2007 at the telephone number and/or e-mail address provided at the time of entry.

    Finals Round
During the finals round event on-site at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, on or around September 26, 2007, each finalist will demonstrate his/her add-in in-person to a panel of judges consisting of Microsoft personnel and members of the industry and/or media. At the conclusion of the finals round, the judges will determine the First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize winners in each contest category based on the preliminary round judging criteria.

Full details are available at Microsoft’s Windows Home Server website and the deadline for entries is Friday August 31st 2007.

    Good luck!
