Windows Home Server: Served Up In Which Languages?

Beta Testing, Windows Home Server

With the RC1 release of Windows Home Server, we’re very close to seeing the final version which will be released later in the year. We are, of course, still waiting for key details such as release date and pricing to be announced. Another big announcement we’re waiting for is which languages Windows Home Server will be localised for.

To date, only the English language version of WHS has been released, and I’m sure there’s testers all over the world who would love to see WHS in their native language. Whilst I’m sure there won’t be the same language coverage as Windows Vista, I’ve got a feeling we may see a few localised versions of WHS released in the autumn, along with the standard English version.

So, if English isn’t your native language, in what languages would you like to see WHS?

EDIT: I should do my research a little better. Tucked away in the FAQs at the Windows Home Server website is a statement that WHS will be released in English, German, French, and Spanish.

Interestingly, this post on the MS Forums indicates that back in February at least, a Japanese localisation was planned. Obviously the plans changed at some point.

How about British English? It’d be nice to see Microsoft using British English in the same way that Google does, rather than forcing American English onto us…

Now there’s an idea! I wonder whether the UI is actually extensible? I’d happily put a few hours away translating from American to British English (or as we like to call it, “English”) :-)

I don’t think the UI will be extensible - there’s never been anything like that from Microsoft before. The nearest there was was the Welsh government paying for a Welsh localisation. On the Mac, a Group of Greek Mac Geeks (try saying that quickly!) hacked the localisation files for OSX so that they could have a localised version of the Mac’s OS.

I think you’re right, but it’s a shame - especially as Vista now has various language packs available, it would be great if users could build their own. Didn’t realise the Welsh paid for their own version - would love to know how many people use it….
