Wed, Jul 25, 2007 | Terry Walsh

Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo Home Server prototype hardware

Whilst we’re still waiting for photos to emerge (as opposed to slightly blurry renders) of Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo Home Server, I have been able to lock-down a few elements of the specification today.

  • Storage: 500Gb (2 x 250Gb SATA2 hard disks)
  • Internal Storage Expansion: 2 additional ports
  • USB 2.0 Ports: 2
  • Networking: Gigabit Ethernet
  • Energy Rating: Energy Star 4.0 compliant
  • Pricing: Base System 499 Euros

No word on motherboard, processor and memory specs at this point.

As previously mentioned the prototype unit will be on show at next month’s IFA show in Berlin.

Good to know that the system will cost 499 and not 700 euros, as stated elsewhere.
I think this makes it much more attractive to the customer!
When you say base system, is there an “advanced” system too? (maybe with 4 hard drives?)
I just read in the Energy Star compliant that the system must idle at less than 50 watts, which is fairly good I think, although it still could be less.

    Hi Alex,

I’m guessing there will be options to add on more storage, but this is still to be confirmed. This is probably where the 799 euro option came in….

    Best,
    Terry

The Fujitsu and the Velocity Micro look very similar. Probably same OEM or reference design.
