Hardware, Windows Home Server

At the Microsoft Windows Home Server Press Preview today in Berlin, Medion presented their new MD 90110 Home Server. We now have full details on the system, courtesy of Christoph from the German Homeserver Blog.

So, first thing’s first: here’s the spec.

• Processor: AMD Sempron 64 (AM2)/Intel P4 LGA 775 options available
• Chipset: AMD RS-690/Intel 945GC
• Motherboard: MicroATX
• Memory: 1 GB GDR 2,533 MHz
• HDD (eSata)
• Maximum Storage: 2Tb (4 X.500 GB with RAID SUPPORT)
• Rear Connections: 4 x USB 2.0, 1 x Gigabit Ethernet, 1 x eSATA
• Screwless internal hard drive bays for easy expansion
• Recovery Button for Server Reinstallation
• PacketVideo Connect software for easy media streaming
• 4 x Hard Drive LEDs + 1 x LAN LED

Processor Choice

As previously mentioned, the systems will ship with a choice of “Basic” and “Premium” specs with processors from AMD and Intel. Confusingly, these all appear to be under the same model code.

The choices are as follows:

Processor choices

AMD Basic: AMD Sempron 1200LE 1.9GHz with 2 x 250Gb SATA Hard Drives
AMD Premium: AMD X2 BE 2300 2.1GHz with 2 x 500Gb SATA Hard Drives
Intel: Intel Mobile Celeron with 2 x 500Gb SATA Hard Drives

Interestingly, Medion announced that they’re working on transcoding software for their home server which will allow you to view large high resolutions photos on the server at lower resolution on a mobile phone, saving bandwidth, time and money. Looking forward to seeing this in action.

As usual, no indications of pricing at this stage, but the systems should be shipping from October 2007.

Do not take Kamagra if you are taking any nitrate-based drug, including nitroglycerin patches (Nitro-Dur, Transderm-Nitro), nitroglycerin ointment (Nitro-Bid, Nitrol), nitroglycerin pills (Nitro-Bid, Nitrostat), and isosorbide pills (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate). Combining Kamagra with these drugs can cause a severe drop in blood pressure.
If you have heart problems severe enough to make sexual activity a danger, you should avoid using Kamagra. Use it cautiously if you’ve had a heart attack, stroke, or life-threatening heart irregularities within the past 6 months. Be equally cautious if you have severe high or low blood pressure, heart failure, or unstable angina.
If you take Kamagra and develop cardiac symptoms (for example, dizziness, nausea, and chest pain) during sexual activity, do not continue. Alert your doctor to the problem as soon as possible.
If you have a condition that might result in long-lasting erections, such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma (a disease of the bone marrow), or leukemia, use Kamagra with caution. Also use cautiously if you have a genital problem or deformity such as Peyronie’s disease. If an erection lasts more than 4 hours, seek treatment immediately. Permanent damage and impotence could result.
If you have a bleeding disorder, a stomach ulcer, or the inherited eye condition known as retinitis pigmentosa, use Kamagra with caution. Its safety under these circumstances has not yet been studied.

At the last Microsoft IT Forum convention I won a Medion MD 90110 during a session. I waited for its arrival until end of march. It came with the German version of Home Server. Firtly I reïnstalled it with an English version after putting a graphical card in the unit, and had attached a USB mouse and keyboard. When the whole thing was set up I remove the HIDs and the graphical card, and started using it with pleasure… for a month.. Then it simply died two days ago. There is no way of turning it on, it simply does not start up. Now all data on the harddrives (4 bays of which 3 occupied =1.5 TB) is not available to me until I get it fixed :-( I wonder what the defect is…
