With a nod and a wink to Engadget, as we’ve been talking about Windows Home Server for so long, I guess it’s only fair to do a few unboxing shots of the System Builder kit, which arrived here at WGS today. ![]()
The DVD comes in a white sleeve, with lots of warnings. If you install it, do your own end-user support, because MS ain’t listening.
No-one thinks of the people who write this stuff, you know. But today, MS lawyers, we salute you!
The Windows Home Server System Builder Kit revealed, at long last! Included is a leaflet, entitled READ THIS FIRST! which basically tells you how, in 3 simple steps, to stick your license sticker on your home server - LOOK, PEEL, STICK - your OPK CD (OEM Preinstallation Kit) along with a lovely yellow leaflet telling you all about it. A white 4 pager provides System Builder installation instructions and finally, you get a DVD case with the goodies.
And finally, meet Windows Home Server RTM, including your license terms (again), your RTM manual (which you’ve already seen, right?) and your Server Installation DVD, Windows Home Server Connector software, and Home Computer Restore CD. Your sticker and license code is on the back of the DVD Case - remember, LOOK, PEEL, STICK! ![]()
Stay tuned for RC upgrade fun tomorrow.
In the meantime, if you’re in the USA, you can now pre-order the Windows Home Server System Builder Kit at Buy.com. If you’re in the UK, Novatech is currently offering the cheapest price.

Hiho Terry,
I wish you luck, so that the upgrade works fine for you.
Please let me know if the CDs´ are labeled correctly. Some of our guests mentioned that the german CDs´are labeled in a somekind of wrong way. Connector CD = Restore CD … Restore CD = Connector CD

Your sticker and license code is on the back of the DVD Case. Yes I’ve found it on the back of dvd case but it was already sticked to it. I’ve contacted MS but right now I have no feedback. Did you have it sticked to dvd case as well?
