Germany is likely to be one of the larger Home Server markets, and we’re already starting to see German OEMs release hardware for Windows Home Server. Christoph over at the German Home Server blog discovered a new release from Tarox.
The Tarox 5000 is a small format home server in a cube design, boasting an impressive specification, and a premium price (999 euros/£691/$1414). Running off a Pentium E2140 Dual Core processor, with 1Gb of memory, the Tarox has more than enough grunt for most households. Here’s the full spec:
Processor: Intel ® Pentium Dual Core ™ E2140, 1.6 GHz, 1024KB cache, 800FSB
RAM: 1024 MB PC533 DDR2
Hard Disks: 2 x500GB SATA in Raid, 7200 RPM, 16MB cache
Network: 1 x gigabit LAN
USB: 6 xUSB (2 x front, 4 x rear)
DVD: Dual SATA DVD recorder for all popular formats (20xDVD +-R, 12xDVD-RAM, 48xCD-R)
Dimensions: 20.1 x 26.9 x 33.5 mm
PSU: 300 W silent
Looks like a great machine, if you have the spare cash.

Please do not forget about the high electrical power costs in Germany. No one in Germany wants a Home Server running 24×7. Power costs in Germany are around 0.20 Euro cent per kW/h - assuming 100 W 24×7 would be approx. 175 € a year. That’s pretty high running cost.

Wow that’s expensive. I built a pc with the same case but had 2GB RAM, a 19″ widescreen samsung tft, dual dvb-t tuner and a E6600 Core 2 Duo for the same price…
