Avast Anti-Virus WHS Beta Updated to Version 2.1

Sat, Oct 20, 2007 | Terry Walsh

Some users running Avast Anti-Virus for Windows Home ServerĀ [including me] were experiencing an issue whereby shared folders on the home server became inaccessible after a while.

This issue has now been fixed in version 2.1 BETA of Avast Anti-Virus, which is now available for download.

Here’s a list of changes:

Beta 2.1 (WHS: 4.7.21, Home/Pro: 4.7.1069)

  • finally sets the firewall exceptions correctly on all OS’s (i.e. communication with the WHS console should now work immediately, unless a 3rd party firewall product is installed on the client machine)
  • improved on-access scanning performance (applies to the WHS and Vista-based client PC’s)

Beta 2 (WHS: 4.7.18, Home/Pro: 4.7.1066)

  • resolved the problem with inaccessible WHS shares
  • improved code for setting Windows firewall exceptions
  • minor GUI changes/improvements

Beta 1 (WHS: 4.7.14, Home/Pro: 4.7.1063)

  • initial release

There is still one small problem yet to be fixed in Beta 2.1. Laptops if set to Private Network in a wireless mode do not appear in the info table as they should and you cannot operate on them. The reason has been determined and I am sure a fix will soon be forth coming. Other than that small problem. The program seems very stable and doing its job as advertised.
