Overnight (here in the UK) the Windows Home Server team posted on their blog about a potential data corruption issue that WHS users have experienced when using the following products to save files to Windows Home Server:
- Windows Vista Photo Gallery
- Windows Live Photo Gallery
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2007
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2003
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
- Microsoft Money 2007
- SyncToy 2.0 Beta
- Various Bittorrent applications
- Intuit Quicken
- QuickBooks
Knowledge Base article KB946676 explains the issue in a little more detail. I’ll just amplify the advice given on the WHS blog - the team are working over the holidays on a fix, and until then, either have a remote/physical back up of these files available or do not use these application with WHS at the moment.
Not a nice way to end the year - let’s hope it’s fixed asap.

Bittorent files are no problem, as long as you use a temp dir (for incomplete files) outside de share pool, like: D:\temp.
When the file is completed have it moved to \\server\Downloads.
This works for me with uTorrent.

I’ve noticed this in vista photo gallery - when I rotate a file in that, sometimes it corrupts the picture. I thought it may have been hard drive problems, but now I know better!
