Fujitsu-Siemens Home Server 

I swapped a couple of emails last week with the guys over at Fujitsu-Siemens regarding the forthcoming Scaleo Home Server. A couple of interesting tidbits came to light.

  • They won’t be showing off the Scaleo Home Server at CES next month, as their focus is on Europe. If you’re in the US, I think you may have to import the Scaleo if it’s on your shopping list. (Or go for the Velocity Micro NetMagix system, which is based on the same chassis, but for a lot more money - incidentally, has anyone bought this?)
  • Plans are still on track to release the Scaleo Home Server in Europe (I’m guessing Germany first, but no confirmation there) in January 2008.
  • The Scaleo Power Management add-in we featured last week actually means that the system continually runs in Hibernation and only wakes up when you need to connect to it. The Power Management add-in can be configured to put the machine in hibernation or wake up at scheduled times, and the system will automatically wake itself up for key scheduled tasks like nightly backups. This will keep power consumption at a minimum and Fujitsu-Siemens are seeing this add-in as a big differentiator for the Scaleo Home Server. Always available, but not always on.

    I bought the velocity micro the day it came out. was given a ship date of dec 8th… still waiting… I called and they informed me that they are waiting on cases that are not due until 1st of year….they charge credit card the day you order…..Frustrating!!!!!!!

    I am wondering if they have shipped any system yet or were they even prepared to sell systems when they announced???

    Hi,
    I wonder if this add-in is/will be generally available. I’ve build my own WHS, and this add-in would be a great addition to my network (so I could hibernate my WHS when I’m working/sleeping)

    Any thoughts/news here ??
