Poll Update: What’s In Your Server Cupboard?

Sat, Mar 15, 2008 | Terry Walsh

Since I announced on 11 February that we have a poll on the WGS forums about what you use for your WHS system we’ve had another 236 responses - so now 273 of you have responded.  Thanks to all of you who have responded - I think it’s fair to say that this poll now provides one of the best indications of WHS adoption and buying trends publically available. As well as the limited numbers of commercial systems available (HP Mediasmart Server et al.) we’ve included the option to identify your system as either a new custom build or a “recycled” system.

It’s interesting to see that 41% of the total number of systems are recycled and 65% of the custom build (new & recycled) systems are Intel Processor based - this has swung around from the initial result back on 11 February when 54% were AMD based.

There is no surprise that of the commercial systems the HP Media Smart is well ahead with 77% of the commercial system share - but these commercial OEM systems account for only 30% of the total number of systems (this 70% self build / 30% commercial OEM ratio has been consistent now for the last month).

This could all change though as more commercial systems start to appear, so get your vote in now and we’ll report back each month. Many thanks to WGS moderator bodogbodog for managing the poll on our behalf.
