Three Waves of Home Server in Portugal, from Tsunami

Mon, Mar 17, 2008 | Terry Walsh

From the looks of things, the home server market is starting to warm up over in Spain and Portugal, with HP launching the MediaSmart Server a few weeks ago, and a Portugese OEM, Tsunami, this week releasing what looks like three great new Home Server models.

Tsunami Home Server

First up is the Tsunami Tidal Home Server 1230, a small footprint (165 x 50 x 165) home server, running off a 1GHz Intel T2330 processor with 1 Gb of RAM and a 320Gb SATA hard drive. This is now available at 899 Euros.

Following shortly after will be two more models - at 575 euros, the Tidal Home Server 1150 will offer a lower cost, budget option (although it’s difficult to see where they can reduce the spec from the 1230!) and a higher capacity model, the Tidal Home Server 1390 will provide additional storage with three hot swappable 320Gb drives.

As there is no Portugese Windows Home Server software, all units ship with the standard English build, although local Portugese news sites are reporting a localised build may be available towards the end of the year.

Interestingly, the Tsunami model has been developed in a partnership between Microsoft Portugal and local manufacturer, JP Sá Couto with much of the development coming out of Israel. It’s reported that Microsoft Portugal are hoping this partnership kick starts the domestic home server market, as well as entice international OEMs to bring thair hardware to the country.
