How-To: Listen to Internet Radio with Windows Home Server and SHOUTcast

SHOUTcast is a free application which anbles you to access thousands of internet radion stations from all over the world. Did you know you can set up Windows Home Server to be your own, personal SHOUTcast server, so you can listen to internet radio anywhere in your home? We’ll show you how, thanks to Drashna’s guide in the We Got Served Wiki.

What to do
Most important thing to do first, is to download the SHOUTCast server, the AnyService Installer, and the Windows Server 2003 toolkit. Best bet is to download them to a network share. I recommend using “\\SERVER\Software\” because you will be able to easily get to them once you are connected to the server’s remote access.

Installation

Now the fun part begins. Remote desktop, or use the Advanced Admin Console for the WHS Console to gain access to the downloaded files. If you used my recommendation, you can access them at “\\SERVER\Software” or “D:\Shares\software” though it is highly discouraged to use “D:\Shares\” in general, for corruption issues.

First, install the Windows Server 2003 Resource Toolkit. Just use the default settings. Not much to configure for it anyways…..
