Bugs, Windows Home Server

A post in the last few minutes over on the WHS Team blog has announced a forthcoming public beta of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 in May, which will be bundled with a fix for the long-standing data corruption bug.

The team report that “great progress is being made” on the bug fix, and a limited release will be made to hardware and software partners, Microsoft MVPs, Windows Home Server Insiders (other MVPs), and Microsoft Employees in April. Should all go well, a public beta will commence in May before release, which has previously been targeted for June.

Should you wish to be part of the public beta in May, visit http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer to register your interest. Let me know, do you want to be a part of this beta? Are you happy testing out the data corruption fix? Will you be signing up? In case you missed our CES Special on Power Pack 1, or as a reminder, here’s a detailed look at what you’ll get with Power Pack 1.

The article asks you to register for “future” beta tests, so I’m not sure if PP1 is a future test or a planned test.

“And then based on feedback and additional testing, we currently plan on releasing a public beta in May. If you are interested in participating in a future public beta, go to http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer to register. When the Power Pack 1 software is ready for public testing, we will contact the people that have already registered at the Windows Home Server Connect site with more details on the public beta program.”

Either way there is no specific sign-up page for this beta. You just have to have a Connect account and a general sign-up to the WHS program. Anyone who has been on the WHS program for the last year should be fine.

i am already on the site from my involvement in the beta last year. I guess that should do it. I’ll be installing pp1 beta as soon as they release it…

I also went to signup, but like prior posters there was no place to signup. I too have a connect account and did beta test WHS server so hopefully that’s all that is required to test the beta PP1 and data fix

As Simon Smith stated, the WHS blog does state that currently registered Connect members will be contacted when the Beta is ready for download. Can’t wait….
