Here’s a great example of why Windows Home Server, and the community that’s developed around it, completely rocks. On Wednesday, a post in the WGS add-ins forums asks if there’s an add-in which can find duplicate files on a home server. Nothing like it exists. So someone writes one and makes it available today, Friday. That’s a 48 hour turnaround from request to solution - I love it.
So a big thank you to the fantastically named anfield_forever (I’m a Liverpool fan, too) for the request and to Brent for stepping up and writing the add-in. The WHS Community in action! So here’s the run-down on the add-in:
DupeCleaner scans your shares for duplicates and then displays the duplicate files. Then you can choose the files to clean.
Features:
- Scans for duplicate files in your shares and then displays them
- Clean selected duplicates
- Filter by name (so that it checks the file name and not just the hash)
- Folder exclusions
