The team over at the Windows Home Server Team Blog have been keeping a tally of the uptake of WHS around the globe since February. They’ve come up with a formula to make comparisons across countries relevant - based on Windows Home Server sales divided by the number of households with a broadband connection in each country.
They report positions each month and the Windows Home Server World Cup results for May are in and Norway remains on top and extends its lead over its competition.
So where are all those WHS users from Norway - it would be great to hear from you on We Got Served - please feel free to visit the WGS Forums and introduce yourselves - and let us know why WHS is so successful in Norway!
They look like they are going to be hard to catch, as it seems that the Norwegians understand the power of benefits of Windows Home Server and continue to bring it into their homes at a rapid pace. New Zealand and the USA are still in the #2 and #3 spots, and Denmark made a huge surge to secure the 4th spot as time is running down. Canada is now in the top 8, with less than 30 days left in Microsoft’s fiscal year.
The top 8 countries are:
- Norway
- New Zealand
- United States
- Denmark
- Germany
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- Australia
The standings are computed by taking Windows Home Server sales divided by the number of households with a broadband connection in each country. Updated standings will be published each month and the winning country will be announced in July of this year, at the close of Microsoft’s fiscal year 2008.

Hello. I’m from Norway. Why WHS is so popular in Norway I don’t know, but one of the reasons might be we have several computers in our homes. I have four myself. One for gaming and downloads, a HTPC, a laptop and now HP 470. I just upgraded my ram and are waiting for a 1640 cpu. After the ram upgrade to 2Gb it became a lot quicker. Recommended.
Personally I’m using WHS to backup my files and to be able to access my files from the web. Currently I have a 12-1 line, but it will be upgraded to a 10-10 or a 25-25Mbit soon. Fibercable is the future.
Just love this site. A lot of useful add-ins and tips. Keep up the good work.

Hello, I’m also from Norway. I think the reason why WHS is so successful in Norway is the fact that it’s very easy to use and Norwegians simply love computers
My “computert center” consists of 6 computers, 2 dreamboxes, PS3 and some other tek stuff. WHS is my way off shearing media/files on my LAN and when I’m travelling. And I just love the backup function the WHS brings to the commen people.
I have homepage where you can find some WHS information written in Norwegian. Also have some step by step guides with pictures. You can find it at http://www.blog.sgaah.com
