Thanks to everyone who came along today for today’s HP MediaSmart Server webinar - apologies to everyone who had to endure a little more of that hold music whilst I dialled back into the Live Meeting. Suffice to say, I completely lost the audio on the phone whilst Jeff was talking to Mark Pendergrast and I thought the issue was at their end. :) I blame BT, me.
The main news from today’s session is that HP have taken the decision to hold the release of their long- awaited update for the MediaSmart Server until the final release of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1, to ensure full compatibility with Microsoft’s update.
Whilst Microsoft have not announced any further release dates for Power Pack 1 other than their earlier “first half of the year” statement, they’ve dropped a few heavy hints that the final release would be “quality driven” and as such, I’d be surprised to see Power Pack 1 released for a good few weeks yet. (NB. This is a guess)
I know that both companies are really keen to get their respective updates out as soon as possible, but it’s right that they’re not released until they’re ready.

Great Webinar Terry. I enjoyed it. My ears perked up when Allen Buckner started discussing PP1 sync’d with the HP Update. He said, “coming weeks.” I guess that could be anything from 2 to 52! It’s exciting none the less. Thanks for the link to homeservershow.com and I hope everybody who doesn’t have a MediaSmart Server will take advantage of HP and NewEgg’s hospitality.

Dammit, when will there be deals on Mediasmart servers for UK folks? (and the rest of the world outside the US!) It already costs nearly DOUBLE in the UK versus the US price - ~£450 vs. $464 from NewEgg.
Come on, HP.
