Ian Dixon brings word via EngadgetHD and AkihabaraNews that Sony has released two new TP1 model Media Centers. The VGX-TP1DQ/B and the VGX-TP1D are the latest entry-level additions to Sony’s VAIO TP Home Theater PC line which are best known for their diminutive footprint and distinctive circular shape reminiscent of an over-sized hockey puck.
The VGX-TP1D is white and packs a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo T8100 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 320 GB hard drive and a dual-layer DVD burner. The VGX-TP1DQ/B trades up for black, a 500 GB hard drive, and Blu-ray. Both models also use the Nvidia 8400M GT graphics card which will provide full acceleration for Vista Media Center and HD playback.
Both models are due out in Japan in the next couple of weeks and will hopefully make their way out to other territories soon.

Looks like not as good of a version of the hockey puck! They do look decent, and pretty durable, as I saw one of these in person today.

Given that the hockey puck is an ideal form, any other object could only aspire to the form.
I have seen other entries in the line in person and they do seem like respectable little machines. I would like to crack one open and check out the internal layout sometime.

So how much are they going to cost?

The VGX-TP1D will go for ¥150,000 ($1,392) and the VGX-TP1DQ / B will go for ¥200,000 ($1,856) in Japan. At this time, that is the only place they are being released, but so far all of the other VGX model PCs have gone international after a short time in Japan. Given Sony’s current line-up, these are perfect replacements for their current TP1 systems and will give the entire VAIO TP Home Theater PC line a nice base.
