HP MediaSmart Server Update Now Available

Hot on the heels of today’s release of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1, HP have released their long-awaited update for the HP MediaSmart Server, which brings:

  • PacketVideo PVConnect DLNA-compliant media streaming
  • x64 support (following installation of PP1)
  • Mcafee Total Security Trial

The software update is now available via an automatic update, or you can select “Check for Updates” in the Windows Home Server console.

Update: If you were one of the unlucky people whose update failed a few weeks ago and are having difficulties initiating the upgrade, check out Alex’s thread over at mediasmartserver.net for a possible resolution.

I have problems with PVConnect and albums containing several artists using windows media player over DLNA.

WMP will create one album per artist event if the album artist is set to various artists. This might be a bug in PVConnect but the forum looks dead

Due to this reason PVConnect is useless for use with windows / xbox

Hmmmm, doesn’t seem to be up yet. I have tried both the HP update and the Windows and they both don’t have updates yet.

  4. Cope23 Says:

What are the final versions for components after upgrade?

Also, I did not have to install a client update after the install; is that normal?

  5. Stenton23 Says:

Do I install both the HP update and the PP1, or does HP’s update incorporate PP1?

  6. Terry Walsh Says:

These are separate updates, and you’ll need to install both.

I’ve looked around but cannot find details of how much a year of McAfee’s Total Security will cost after the six-month trial is up.

Can anyone point me to their pricing?

Their site says the price of a license is competitive with other solutions.

    Thanks very much!

I could not download the HP update running the English version in Denmark until I changed Settings/General/Region from Danish to English. After the change and a reboot of WHS I found the update and installed it, but it did not contain the McAfee package. Has anybody else installed without getting McAfee?
