Add-Ins: WHSDbDump and WHSDbCheck

A guy named Alex has recently set up a blog sharing his adventures (and indeed frustrations) with Windows Home Server’s backup function, and has written two advanced add-ins which allow you to investigate your home server backups in granular detail.

WHSDbDump creates human readable text from Windows Home Server backup database files. It’s currently able to decode all database files, and Alex advises that this is more of an informational learning tool than an actual utility.

WHSDbCheck performs comprehensive checks on the Windows Home Server backup database looking for consistency problems.

These are tools really designed for advanced users, and both are in alpha, so please download and install with care – usage instructions are posted on Alex’s blog so if you’re up for getting down and dirty with Windows Home Server backup, check these two add-ins out!
