Those of you who have followed WGS for a while will know that we’re big fans of the Squeezebox range of digital media receivers.
I have two of the original Squeezebox units attached to my home network (in the kitchen and the main bedroom), and you’ll remember that we also featured a review of the Squeezebox Duet earlier in the year.
Here at IFA in Berlin, Logitech have announced the Squeezebox Boom, a newcomer to the range with new file formats available for playback, and most importantly, the added convenience of integrated 30W speakers.
As everything is in one box, there’s no need to buy and attach separate speakers with the requisite cable mess - you can simply plug it in, find your home network wirelessly or via Ethernet and go.
It’s a great looking device that works seamlessly with Windows Home Server - if you enjoy your music and want an easy way to distribute and play it around the home, the Squeezebox Boom looks like a winner.
Hi - I'm Terry and I'm the Owner of We Got Served. The site's been covering everything to do with Windows Home Server since February 2007.
I live in Silverstone, UK with my wife and when I'm not working on We Got Served, I have a career as an Innovation Consultant to contend with.
Just ordered this (UK) and it will be with me on Tuesday 09 Sept - cant’ wait! I have an older Netgear bit of kit which was great in its day but this Squeezebox Boom is good enough for me to actually make the effort to replace it!
Now just need to save up to buy the Squeezebox Controller.

Is it possible to use the Sequeezebox Boom within the wlan-setup that you mentioned in one of your articles a while back?

Yep - the Squeezebox Boom has integrated wireless LAN, so you can connect it no problem.

Can’t wait to get one. I already have two Squeezeboxes, served by SqueezeCenter running on my WHS box.
