This week, HP announced a new suite of products for the holiday season, including new versions of it’s TouchSmart PC series, new notebooks, digital photo frames and a new SimpleSave backup solution for desktop PCs.
There were no announcements regarding the release of any new products in HP’s MediaSmart series, and my guess is that we would have seen an announcement today if the new MediaSmart Server was being released before the end of the year.
So, let’s take a look at what is then coming for the holidays.
HP TouchSmart IQ800
We featured the HP TouchSmart IQ500 back in June at it’s worldwide launch in Berlin. I’m surprised to see that HP have refreshed the range so quickly, but that’s exactly what they’ve done with the new IQ800 series, which now includes a 25.5” high definition screen with 1900 1200 resolution, a Blu-ray drive, a hardware-encoded TV tuner, and an optional wall-mount kit. The IQ500 was cool enough – and the IQ800 sweetens the deal. Price is on the high side (especially in the UK) at £1499/$1899 (US). It’ll be on shelves at your favourite big box in November.

UK always get screwed with prices. $1899 is a little over £1000, even with our rubiish 17.5% VAT it should only be £1200 at most. Where do they get off charging us more?

Pretty cool; nice eye candy, too. I fooled around with an IQ500 a few weeks ago, at a Staples located near my home in Philadelphia, until my 12-year-old daughter made me leave (how ironic).
It’s nice; looks fairly expandable, and useful. I do wonder, however, whether an upright screen is conducive to extended work via touch…
