For this tutorial, you will want to use Remote Desktop Connection to access your server.
Requirements
InstallingInstall ffdshow or K-lite codec pack. This should be pretty straightforward. Just keep the default settings if you’re not sure. Install Orb 2.0. After installing you get the “Welcome to Orb” wizard. Press Next twice, and fill in your account information. Press Next again, and again. A system check will occur, after that press Next again. Now, we see the option to configure Orb to stream your media. Yes is already selected, so we press Next. Select the network type you got. Mine is Mixed, so I chooce Both (Some devices on wireless, some on wired) and click on Next. By now we’ve finished the wizard, so we’ll click on close. If you need more information about installing Orb (Firewall issues, TV cappabilities, etc) then the check this link: http://orb.com/en/installing_orb. I'm not covering these subjects at the moment. ConfigurationClose the annoying Web browser that pops up after the install. There’s nothing to see anyway yet. As you can see, Orb is running in the system tray. Right click on it and select configuration. We see four tabs: TV / Media / More Info / Users. TVWe skip this step as I don’t have any TV capture card connected. Disable webcams too (I don’t cover this) MediaHere you can assign the Video, Photo, Music and documents folders. Remove the default folder lists first. For Video I use the shared folders Videos (ex. \\Server\Videos), the same for Music and Photo’s. I use my personal User folder (\\Server\Users\GaMeR in this case) for documents. However, it’s not needed if you don’t want to. More InfoHere we are able to configure Orb. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO TURN OFF THE FILE BROWSER!! Personally I find it a huge security risk and I don’t want to be able to get into my system files on my WHS this way! Second: you’ll notice two options to start Orb. Select only one of them (keep it at “Start Orb when windows Starts” for now). A little below you’ll see 2 buttons. One of them named “Codecs”. Click on it and select the ffdshow codec. UsersHere you’ll see the users that have access on your media. You can add users simply by clicking on the button and fill the required info needed. They will have access on your WHS shares when they log in at www.orb.com. Check the Tips section for more info about this. You’re done! Wait a while for Orb to index your shares (this could take a little while, depending on how many shares you got). You can safely reboot (Orb will continue to index the files next time it's started) and RDP back into your WHS to make sure everything is running smoothly. You’ll see the green Orb icon in the tray. Orb is not yet configured as a service, we will cover that next. Just make sure everything is ok and that the File Browser is turned off by logging in @ www.orb.com. You’ll see that some media (if not all – depending how big your shares are) are displayed in the browser. Thumbnails are being generated, just like your media library, just give Orb some time to complete that task. When you’re done go back to your WHS desktop unless you want to add some users to it (See Tips section for this). Right click on the Orb icon in the tray and press configuration again. Now de-select “Start Orb when windows Starts” and select “Run Orb when I am not logged in”. Reboot your WHS and you’ll see that Orb is running as a service! TipsAdding UsersAdding users is quite simple. If you haven’t yet start Orb as a service then you have the Orb icon still in the system tray. (If you don’t, disable the Orb service and restart your WHS and manually startup Orb when you’re back on the WHS Desktop). Right click on it and select configure. Go to the Users tab and press the “Add user” button. You’ll see a button “Create an account”, if the user you want to add isn’t already an excising user then click on it. (Otherwise fill in the Excising user’s login and password). Fill in the required fields and click finish. That user is now able to login @ http://www.orb.com and watch your videos and listen to your music anywhere he has internet access. Change the Default Player on your ORB SiteThis is something really neat! When some of your friends has no Windows box or doesn’t want to use the default player, that user can change his or hers default player on his or hers Orb site! Simply login @ http://www.orb.com and click on Open application. You’ll see a list, beneath that list is the option: Control Panel. In the control panel you can alter lots of stuff but we change the default player to “Orb Flash Player”. This way your linux of OSX friends can also watch your videos and listen to your music!
Did you notice the subtitles? That's Vobsub doing it's thing. Change the Default Looks of your ORB SiteClick Open Application and go to the Control Panel. On the left of the control Panel you’ll see “Skin”. Simply choose one you like and enjoy your media the way you want it. You can also add or remove panels on your personal Orb site (Even google applets!). Here's how mine looks like: Streaming SpeedAgain click Open application and go to Control Panel. Select “Streaming speed” and set your parameters. Fiddle with it a bit to see what’s best for you. Mobile Phones, Consoles & Other DevicesYour Orb site is also accessible by mobile phone, your laptop and even your console! For more info about this look @ http://orb.com/en/supported_devices DoneThat’s it for now! If you find any errors in this tutorial then please PM or E-Mail me. Questions are best asked in the forums so that people don’t ask me the same question over and over again. The usual disclaimers apply. I’m not responsible for anything happening on your WHS, your main rig, your wife or girlfriend, the dog or your car! I hope you’ll enjoy your media and Orb!
